Between internal restructurings, political announcements and tensions in the job market,
the United States is seeking to redefine its priorities .
With the new ” Tech Force ” project, Washington has just unveiled a groundbreaking program designed to bring the state closer to the most cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence and technology…
A “Tech Force” to modernize the American administration
Dubbed ” US Tech Force “, this program aims to recruit up to 1,000 digital specialists as part of a pilot project that will start in the spring of 2026.
The initiative is being led by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the agency responsible for overseeing the federal public service. According to its director, Scott Kupor , the goal is to address skills gaps within federal agencies and accelerate their technological modernization.
In concrete terms, the recruited profiles will be involved in missions ranging from the modernization of tax systems to the integration of AI solutions in defense infrastructures or intelligence analysis .
Consulting the project guidelines, we also note that Tech Force members will be directly integrated into federal departments , rather than grouped within a single entity.
Close partnerships with tech giants
One of the distinctive features of the US Tech Force lies in its open collaboration with the big names in Silicon Valley.
Apple , Google , Microsoft , OpenAI , Meta , Nvidia , Amazon , and IBM are among the partner companies. Some will agree to allow their employees to take temporary leave to participate in the program, while also contributing to their training and mentoring.
At the end of their mission, participants will be able to either pursue a career in the civil service or move to the private sector. Around twenty partner companies have committed to reviewing their applications , without, however, guaranteeing automatic employment.
High salaries in a tense political context…
To make the program attractive, the White House is offering annual salaries between $130,000 and $200,000 , with potential bonuses. These are high amounts for the administration, even if they remain significantly lower than some Silicon Valley standards .
This announcement comes at a particularly turbulent time for tech workers in the United States. Several government digital teams have recently been dismantled, while new restrictions on H-1B visas are complicating the recruitment of foreign talent.
But faced with China’s growing power in the field of AI, the US Tech Force appears as a strategic tool intended to reposition the United States at the heart of technological innovation…
